PELCOR - NEW PORTUGUESE BRAND
The pearl of West Coast of Europe,
Portugal, is becoming very trendy destination for past few years. Not
only ocean, beautiful landscapes, fresh fish, best wines and friendly
people are the reasons of this fame. Also fashion industry in the
country is growing and getting wider audience in whole Europe. Two
main fashion weeks – one in Lisbon, organized by ModaLisboa and the
other – Portugal Fashion Week based in the creative capital od
Portugal – Porto, are improving from each season. Not only
portuguese fashion designers are being noticed outside their
motherland, but also accessories creators become famous in Europe. It
is still not easy thing to achieve, but
there are some brands, which are aiming
to make an international career. One of them, Pelcor, has just
launched its Winter 2013 collection in London.
Created
in 2003 in São Brás de Alportel, Pelcor is a
unique and sustainable brand.
This
year, the brand is celebrating its 9th
birthday, marking an expansion both in portuguese and international
market, starting with London.
This
eco-friendly brand is concerned in developing a sustainable range of
products in an innovative textile – the cork skin. Working with
such natural material, it develops ecological, innovative and
sophisticated fashion accessories.
Pelcor
focuses on design and innovation, offering different kinds of
accessories including bags, envelopes, wallets, belts, iPad and
iPhone covers, umbrellas and many more. It is also known for its
philosophy, and for that reason, it has developed products for
summits and governmental presentations, as an embassador for cork and
for Portugal.
The
collections of Pelcor are consist of the timeless pieces with the
contemporary design and attention to proportion and detail. The new
collection of the accessories brings new colours to a natural
material, the cork skin, including a warm „sunset” orange, deep
berry and dark, winter blue, charcoal and pearl. This palette
combined with basic pieces, in simple shapes can be worn basically
everywhere.
One of the strongest parts of the
collection and the whole idea is the way the natural materials like
cork and leather are combined with each other and also with metal
pieces.
Pelcor's Winter collection can
definietely described as the essentials that can reach all customers
with the timeless designs and solutions. The other good thing about
it – they are eco, which is also trendy recently. Cork, the main
material used to create Pelcor's pieces is extracted from the oak
tree, that grows mainly in the Mediterranean region. It has very
unique properties: it's extremely light, gas and water impremeable,
flexible, resistant and insulator. It has this mild and
characteristic odor of dry wood and a smooth and natural texture.
Very unexpected was seeing umbrellas
made of cork skin. Absolutely fantastic, drying in few minutes and
looking very elegant.
All the pieces are made with the full
dedication and commitment to detail.

Pelcor's
Winter 2013 collection is something absolutely new not only on
portuguese market but also in the world. Before, there was no brand
who would use cork in such way. All the cork accessories that were
made before, used the thick, rough cork skin, while Pelcor uses
special techniques and really focus on the process of creating their
accessories. It actually don't feel like it's a cokrk skin, because
the pieces are very soft and even from the long distance, it may be
confused with a leather.
The
great thing about the Pelcor's presentation in London is not only
fantastic pieces that were shown, but also the effort, that
portuguese designers are making to popularize their industry abroad.
It
is actually really impressing, how focused they are to introduce
their craft to the world.
The
whole event was very sympathetic, with a glass of Porto wine and
Pasteis de Belem, the portuguese mood was present in every corner of
the room.
Hopefully,
Pelcor will achieve all the goals, because accessories industry needs
a breath of a fresh air. And Pelcor is a perfect answer for these
needs. Cork skin is not widely popular or commercial, what makes it
very special. It's also agood balance between High Street brands and
luxurious, High Fashion. Expensive materials with casual designs
perfectly fits into the hole in the accessories world. And as
mentioned before, it's an eco project, which is another plus of it.
