Do you know Fred Butler? You probably do, but you haven't realized that yet. Okay, let's start again. Have you seen Lady Gaga's video „Telephone”? Of course, you had. Yeah, that telephone-hat is Fred's work. Couple of months ago I went to see the „30 years of Japanese Fashion” exhibition in Barbican Centre. I also decided to take a part in few events organized in collaboration with that exhibition. One of them was meeting with Fred and Rowdy Superstar, musician and performer but also her muse.
Fred started her career by making accessories for her and her friends, they were something completely different what was actually on the market. Creative, look like taken straight from cartoons. Fred decided to show them to wider public by posting photos and showing them to her favourite musicians and artists through myspace. That was a brilliant idea and later she received requests from Bjork and Beth Ditto to create pieces for them. While her fame between celebrties was growing up, she stated to create pieces for La Roux, Lady Sovereign, Skin from Skunk Anansie andof course, Lady Gaga. She also created things for photo shoots like that iconic „Rocket Bra” for Agyness Deyn.
Now, Fred is creating her own collections under her name and while I was doing some research I found these photos from the backstage of her show (source: http://www.kimhowells.com/)
Some photos I took when I met Fred earlier this year:
