DESIGNER CRUSH : JUDY BLAME

Judy Blame is a London based stylist and accessories designer. He began his career in the 1980s as a member of the late photographer Ray Petri’s working group, Buffalo Boys. He later went on to contribute to i-D magazine as well as working as an image-consultant for Neneh Cherry, Björk and Boy George. Blame has designed a line of T-shirts for cult denim brand Superfine. He has also collaborated with various design houses including John Galliano for Christian Dior, where he acted as creative consultant, and more recently with Rei Kawakubo at Comme des Garçons, where Blame designs their range of male accessories.

Have a look at that interesting interview with Judy by Ruth Jamieson for Daily Telegraph :

Which pieces from this season's catwalk shows are on your wish list? I don't really look to the catwalk so much for my clothes, but Philip Treacy's ready-to-wear hats are always a favourite ( philiptreacy.co.uk ).
Which pair of shoes has caught your eye recently? Buddahood do good men's shoes - classic with a bit of a twist.
What do you wear to work? If I'm doing a meeting I'll throw on a suit - Comme des Garçons, Helmut Lang or Paul Smith, but if I'm actually in the studio and working, just T-shirt and jeans.
Which are your favourite shops? In London b Store is really good for young designers, plus I like a little shop called Concrete and another one called House 33 (b Store, 6 Conduit Street W1, 020-7499 6628; Concrete, 35a Marshall Street W1, 020-7434 4546; House 33, 33 Marshall Street W1, 020-7287 5252).
Which are your favourite shops abroad? I like Colette in Paris ( colette.fr ). And I've been going to South America a lot for work and there's loads of good shops in São Paulo - Alexandre Herchcovitch and also Club Chocolate, which is a bit like the Colette of São Paulo.
Which are your favourite hotels? There's a lovely one I stay in in São Paulo - it's quite ragamuffin - called Imperial Hall. It's very homely, cheap and cheerful, not over-designed. I don't need to be tripping over a work of art every time I walk through the lobby, or spending five minutes trying to work out how the shower works. In Paris there's Hotel Eber which has got only about eight rooms, very basic, but it's perfect for me (Imperial Hall, Rua da Consolação, São Paulo; Hotel Eber, 18 rue Léon Jost, Paris).
Which is your favourite bar? I love a good English pub. The Endurance on Berwick Street is really good for lunch and hanging out (90 Berwick Street, London W1).
Who makes the best trainers? Nike and Adidas.
Who is your favourite jeweller? Tom Binns. He's Irish-English and works out of LA; he's the best. His work is always so fine and beautifully constructed.
Where do you buy your underwear? I'm a Marks & Sparks or Muji person (muji.co.uk ).
Who makes the best jeans? I always go back to Levi's. If I was a girl I would wear Superfine, but they haven't done their menswear yet. I have lots of pairs of Levi's and they're all at different stages of falling to bits ( levis.com ).
What are your beauty tips? Soap and water, and Neal's Yard frankincense moisturiser for the mature skin. I swear by it ( nealsyardremedies.com ).
What is your exercise routine? I walk as much as I can.
Is there a diet that works for you? Don't drink so much.
